#1 – Where will it be? (or the perfect location)
Take a look around you. Where did you install or are you going to install your mini office? This question is very important, after all you need concentration to carry out your activity.
Therefore, it is essential that you choose a quiet place where you will have as few interruptions as possible.
The ideal is not to use a space that your family members use all the time – the last thing you want are children running around and screaming during a call important with your boss or, worse, with the client.
Set limits and place your mini office in a separate space from the family. It will be healthier for you and them. This means avoiding placing your notebook in the middle of the living room table or on the kitchen table (if you do this and end up getting angry with the people who live with you, will it be your responsibility or theirs?).
If you have the privilege of living in a house with a clutter room or a closet, these are excellent options for adaptation. If this is not the case, it is possible to insert a dividing screen in one of the rooms of the house, such as the living room or dining room, to mark the work territory.
#2 – Mini office in the hallway
Until yesterday, this space was just an entry and exit point to the house or rooms. But – guess what – today, the hallway can become your new mini office. There are suspended desk designs that can greatly optimize the hallway.
When not in use, the desk can be folded and stored – some can even be converted into shelves for books, plants or decorative items.
#3 – Your table
This is possibly the most important piece of furniture you will need. However, the size and style will depend on how much space you have available. Focus on models that allow you to maximize the area, with shelves, drawers and compartments.
“L” shaped desks are also interesting options, as they can be fitted into a corner for a mini office in the master bedroom. The floating desk from the previous tip returns again as a formidable choice, as it opens up space on the floor.
You can invest in a minimalist piece, or transform a table, counter or flat surface that you already have at home into your office desk. Understand what works for you at this point in your life. Just don’t forget to take tip 1 into consideration.
#4 – Modern small office
When I think of the title of item 4 – small modern office – what comes to mind are those office spaces coworking with super beautiful and functional designs.
Why not get inspired by these places to create your own mini office?! After all, your office is small, but it deserves dedication to be as beautiful and practical as possible.
Invest in furniture with a multipurpose design to always have that extra space to store your things and bring your mindset for the vertical, investing in shelves, which will provide even more storage possibilities.
Don’t forget to decorate your office by combining it with the colors and elements of another environment in which it is located, such as the living room or bedroom.
Invest in pastel tones for a more relaxing environment that is less prone to anxiety. And don’t forget the plants, which, paradoxically, give a super modern touch, as well as creating a more cozy and healthy environment. They create an atmosphere of well-being, especially after many hours of stress in front of a screen.
#5 – How to set up an office in the bedroom?
The bedroom office is a double-edged sword.
On the one hand, it is the perfect environment, as it has little movement of people, little noise and almost no distractions. On the other hand, it is important that your work and rest space are well separated so that one does not interfere with the other. Therefore, for the sake of your mental health, if setting up a mini office in your bedroom is your current option, make sure you have a lot of discipline and clear start and end times for the company’s activities.
You will need a table that doesn’t take up too much space and, most importantly, a comfortable chair – and this, you will discover over time (and with back pain), is non-negotiable.
Next, make sure you choose a location with appropriate lighting, preferably from a natural light source such as a window or near a balcony door. For artificial light, have a table lamp to support the ceiling light, so that on dark days or after sunset, your eyes don’t get tired.
If you have a guest room, rethink its use to accommodate your mini office – after all, you’re unlikely to have guests at home 365 days a year (admit it, most of the time, it’s just a place where you leave your clean clothes after take it off the clothesline).
Sofa bed and other multipurpose furniture will transform this corner into a functional workplace as well as a comfortable space to shelter friends and family when necessary. Add a minibar and create a mini pantry for your office (and a place you’ll never need to leave).
We hope you enjoyed the tips and invest in assembling yours. mini office. If you already have one, tell us in the comments some tips on how you made this environment functional despite the restricted space.
